poera Syracusanus suavissimus, flornit sub Prolemaeis, Lagide ac Philadelpho, qui sic ipse de se:
Α῎λλος ὁ Χῖος. ἐλὼ δὲ Θεόκριτος ὃς τάδεγράψα,
Εἷς ἀπὸ τῶ πολλῶν εἰμὶ Συρηκοσίων.
Υ῾ὸς Πραξαγόραο περικλειτῆς τε Φιλίνης,
Μουσῶν δ᾿ ὀθνείην οὔποτ᾿ ἐφελκυσάμην.
Iessu Hieronis tyranni, ob maledicentiam, occisus. Scripsit Scripsit linguâ Doricâ quae exstant Idyllia 36. Quod scripti genus in Bucolicis Virgilius imitatus est. Unde Eclog. 6. v. 1. 2.
